Rainy Day!!!

So as I am standing here in the shop on the third consecutive rainy day I find myself looking for anyway to pass the time before Kari gets here later tonight. So I started to think about my week that has passed and wondering what the best part was to share on my blog.

It could have been wednesday night when Shayne came out from Portage to play some golf and share some laughs.

But I am choosing a humorous story of when Dean and I went into the local elementary school to provide golf lessons to try and stimulate a new generation of golfers in the area. All of the lessons went so good. the kids were just so full of life and enjoyment over having us there trying to share some knowledge of this great game. Normally that would be good enough of a reason to blog about, but on this particular day i had a run in with a little girl in grade 3 that i will remember for a long time.

Like all the classes before we have an informal introduction then split the kids into 3 groups in which they would work there way around to 3 golf stations. I was set up in the pitching/chipping station. It was more of a fun station then anything. As i am instructing the kids on what we will be doing in this section one little blonde girl cast a strong gaze upon me that i have not felt since kari tried to make me notice her in class last year. After we break into our first exercise i finally got a chance to ask her if there was something on her mind. She said " i know that you said your name was scott, but you look exactly like a guy named Chris. Is he your twin?" i explained that i had one brother and he was not a twin. not believing me she thought for sure that i was twins with this chris guy who is a farmer by the way. I decide quickly that this conversation is only going to be her word against mine so being the adult i was going to end it with a little humor. I tell the girl one last time that i do not have a twin but I would really like to meet this guy because he sounds really handsome. exactly 2.2 seconds later in the most serious tone an 8 year can be in she replies "HE IS NOT!!!!!"

i nearly fell on the floor laughing. I did manage to regroup and continue with what i thought was a great lesson.

That little girl put a smile on to my face so big on an otherwise drury day. thank you.

I guess kids do really say the darndest things.

Update

Hello everyone,

I have not posted in a few days. I had monday off work and went back home to Selkirk for the day and played some golf there. I was back in Carman on tuesday and have played a few rounds and got in some really good practice sessions. My first tournament is on the 17th of May so I still have some time to fine tune this machine. So far to start this year practicing has really good. We do not have a driving range here but there is a practice hole that allows me to work a lot on my wedge play. It is also very quiet around here in the late mornings early afternoon so that helps a lot. I usually try to practice early in the mornings but lately I have been staying up late to talk to Kari on the phone. With her being an hour later then me it makes it a little harder to get to bed early. It is totally worth it to be able to here her voice. I am feeling alone out here some nights so it is nice to be able to talk to a familiar voice. She is coming out on the 2nd of May and I can not wait. That day will be the true start to my summer.

On a side note the head pro Dean North and myself have set up a little contest on the year over here at Carman golf club. We are making a little wager to see who can birdie all the holes first in the least number of rounds. After 3 rounds for both of us he has 11 and I have 7. The most depressing thing about that is that He birdied the hardest hole at the course today:( I will just have to step up my performance that much more.

Take care
Scott

INSANITY!!!

Ok so here is a little blurb for everyone whether you know a lot about golf or not. As you all probably know fitness is a huge part of any athletes training. Over the years this is the part of the game that I have taken the least enjoyment in doing. When I know that I was going to be moving to a new town one month before Kari arrived I figured that this would be a great time to get into better shape for golf and also just to live a healthier life. Cause really what else are you going to do in a new town of 3000 people where you know only 4 people. In the past I have found it hard to stick to a routine so this time I decided that I would try a home workout video. I saw the commercial for Insanity by Shawn T. It is a workout where you use no other items but your own body. It claimed that "all you need is a place to sweat". "It is the harderst workout you will ever do". So i decided to see if i can't download it somewhere off the internet. I figured that if i can see a video of no cousins baby girl Emma winking then i should be able to find this. Find it i did.

So it is currently saturday and I have completed my first 4 workouts and the fit test. However completed might be the wrong choice of words. The disc has played in its entirety and I have kept up with around 60% of it. Personally it is the hardest workout i have ever done.

The one thing about this video is the instructor or lead person Shawn T. I have not been this inspired by something on TV since hearing the "I believe" song played during a gold medal recap at he 2010 Winter Olympiad. With that being said all he does is discuss the movements then offer three phrases of praise:
1. Push, Push, Push Yourself
2. Faster, Faster, Faster
3. Im not trying to hurt you, just make you better

That is all that it takes to make me feel like this guy really wants me to have a six pack and chiseled arms, almost as much as Kari wishes for it. These videos have shown me that i really can push myself to limits that i thought were not possible and i hope to take this lesson and apply it to every aspect of my life.

So Shawn T who i am going to try to add on facebook has been my closest friend since moving here but also my worst enemy.

Last note if any of you readers ever cross paths with a young gentelman named Brian Buffie of Selkirk. Ask him to show you how to do a proper set of MUMMY KICKS!!!

New Season, New Challenges, Same Desire!

Well the 2010 golf season is finally upon us out here in Manitoba. I have moved positions from an amatuer at Selkirk to being an Assistant Professional in Carman MB. This is going to a fairly drastic change for me. In playing amateur events if I was not in a position to win then I would not loose any sleep about a missed four footer on the last hole. Now that I am playing for a living that missed putt could be worth $50 or $500. Every shot I can save means more money in my pocket. I know that there will be a few reminders early on in my pro career when on the drive home that I will be saying to myself that if I only thought that one shot out better then I could buy kari an even nicer gift with my winnings. (hope you like Kari)

Even with these changes in how I may treat a tournament or golf in general for the year my desire to grow as a player will be just as strong as ever. Every day whether practiciing or playing I will be striving to achieve a personal goal set out for that day. These goals change as the year goes on. However if I can leave the course everyday knowing that I have put in an honest effort into achieving that goal then there is no reason to believe that i will be setting myself up to taking that next step to a tour player in the short future.

Hello

Hello everyone, I am Scott Borsa. I am a 24 year old CPGA Professional with a career goal to one day tee it up with the best players in the world on the PGA Tour. In this blog I will give you an insight as to where my golf is taking me and how things are progressing into trying to achieve my boy hood dreams.

Hope you all come along for the ride. I do not expect it to be easy or happen over night. I hope that hard work, and a desire to compete can take me places that I would not get the chance to visit if I didn't play this great game.

Scott
p.s. I plan to get a solid catch phrase to end all my entries. Just do not have one yet:)
